The most optimistic people lived 11 to 15% longer than the least optimistic (Lee et al., PNAS, 2019).
The words you use shape what you do. People who told themselves “I don’t” instead of “I can’t” made the healthier choice far more often, 64% compared with 39% (Patrick and Hagtvedt, Journal of Consumer Research, 2012).
When you get curious, that “I wonder” feeling, your brain’s reward and memory systems switch on, so you learn better (Gruber, Gelman and Ranganath, Neuron, 2014).
So the next time you hear yourself say “I can’t,” pause. Breathe. Let the T float away.
I can. I wonder. I won.
That’s how easy hypnosis is. It changes your state, giving you more resilience and freedom.
